FA Cup final 2015: Lawro's lowdown on Arsenal v Aston Villa

I see Saturday's FA Cup final as being an open game because Aston Villa will realise their best chance of winning is if they go at Arsenal.
They could not buy a goal under previous boss Paul Lambert but, under Tim Sherwood, attacking has become Villa's strength.
Surely they will not want to just sit deep and wait for the Gunners to come at them, because I don't think they will hold out for long if they do.
The more men they commit forward, the more dangerous Villa look.
It is the same for Arsenal - we know Arsene Wenger loves to play expansive attacking football and hopefully both teams will go for it to give us an entertaining final.
Attack-wise, Arsenal look very strong. They also have a lot of competition for places, which is something you cannot have enough of.
Theo Walcott was played up front and down the middle in the Gunners' final Premier League game of the season against West Brom and scored a hat-trick.

But I would still stick with Olivier Giroud up front against Villa. He gives Arsenal a presence up front that none of their other players can offer and holds the ball up much better than Walcott could ever do.
I can see Walcott as playing as a central striker and sometimes on his own, but he is more suitable for that role in away league games, when Arsenal are seeing less of the ball.
They should have more possession than Villa on Saturday and, if Wenger goes with Giroud, he can pay different people off him - including Walcott.
I know Giroud gets criticised for missing chances but all strikers do that. People also say he is not an Arsenal-type of player but I don't think that is right.
He is exactly the sort of player they need, because he gives them something different.
People say Villa striker Christian Benteke is such a threat because he is so good in the air and can also score with his feet.
But the same can be said for Giroud. He might have missed a few chances in the Champions League against Monaco but, in the Premier League, he has scored more goals in fewer starts than Benteke.

Garth Crooks's team of the season: De Gea, Terry, Sanchez

It has been a fantastic Premier League season. Chelsea reigned supreme from day one, clinched the title with room to spare and were the standout team of the season - both in defence and attack. The league has been illuminated by players such as Alexis Sanchez, arriving at Arsenal and bringing even more swagger to Arsene Wenger's cultured side - and perhaps an FA Cup winners' medal too - and Philippe Coutinho, who has managed the seemingly impossible feat of upstaging even the mighty Steven Gerrard in the Liverpool skipper's last season at Anfield. With so much talent to choose from, it has been a difficult decision - but here are the players and the manager, who I thought excelled and have earned themselves a place in my team of the season. GOALKEEPER - David De Gea (Manchester United) David De Gea David De Gea made more saves with his feet (17) than any other Premier League goalkeeper this season United have a history of fielding great goalkeepers in the past and they seldom come better than Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van der Sar. When they do come across a talent who can perform on the big stage with the same measure of accountability it is crucial that they keep him. David De Gea is in that class and it is vital United retain the Spaniard in order to win trophies in the future or progress to the latter stages of the Champions League next season. Should De Gea follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, it would suggest that the gulf between the two clubs is far bigger than United dare admit. DEFENDER - Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea) Branislav Ivanovic Branislav Ivanovic was the only defender to both score (four) and assist (five) at least four goals this term Arguably Chelsea's most consistent player in recent years and a vital member of their defensive line-up. Branislav Ivanovic is capable of playing in any position across the back line and the ability to engage in attack or defence with the same intensity. I cannot recall a single campaign during his time at the club where the Serb has not played a crucial role in the big games . A real danger on attacking set plays and a warrior in defence - and a winner if ever I saw one. DEFENDER - John Terry (Chelsea) John Terry John Terry became only the second outfield player to play every minute for a Premier League title-winning side (the first was Gary Pallister in 1992-93 I thought this lad was past his best 18 months ago but the return of Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge has brought a new lease of life to the former England international. There is arguably no other manager in the game who would have built his team around John Terry and no other captain who could have lead his team to the Premier League title so effectively. Terry and Mourinho were this season's perfect partnership.

MLS round-up: LA Galaxy secure injury-time win over Houston

LA Galaxy's Alan Gordon headed home the winning goal in injury time for a 1-0 victory over Houston Dynamo on Friday, ending a five-game winless streak. Gordon's soft touch caught goalkeeper Tyler Deric flat-footed 90 seconds into stoppage time from Robbie Keane's ball. Keane came on as a sub for LA early in the second half and made an immediate impact, finding Gyaso Zardes at close range only for Deric to save, before setting up the late winner. Robin van Persie has had crunch talks with his agent as his Old Trafford future hangs in the balance. Derby want Steve McClaren to quit and clear the way for a new manager. Sunderland hero Dick Advocaat has told the club: If you want me as boss, splash the cash. Tony Pulis has warned Saido Berahino he wants none of the contract controversy engulfing Raheem Sterling at Liverpool. Arsene Wenger has told Barcelona Aaron Ramsey is not for sale. Ron Vlaar could hand Aston Villa an FA Cup final boost by agreeing a new deal with the club. daily star Louis van Gaal believes goalkeeper David De Gea has changed his mind and will snub Real Madrid to stay at Manchester United. Steve McClaren was last night edging towards the exit at Derby - but is believed to be unwilling to resign as manager of the Championship outfit. Dick Advocaat has told Sunderland he might stay - if the club buy him six new players. Manuel Pellegrini says his end-of-season meeting with Manchester City's top brass will not decide his future. Garry Monk insists his Swansea stars are going nowhere this summer. Ron Vlaar is set to complete a major U-turn and stay at Aston Villa.

One of the most famous football players right now is Gareth Bale. The Welsh international player is the most expensive football player in history. Real Madrid signed him for 100 million euros from Tottenham Hotspurs in 2013. Some people say that he is the mirror copy of Cristiano Ronaldo, the current world’s best player. Angel di Maria’s name is now often heard as he has now become one of the best football players in the world. Somehow though, many people still don’t know this Messi’s teammate in Argentina national football team. Thus, for you who want to know more about this Argentine professional football player, take a look at this Angel di Maria biography.

Born in Rosario, Argentina, on 14 February 1988, Angel Fabian Di Maria Hernandez joined a local club in 1995 and graduated from the youth academy ten years later. He then made his professional debut on 14 December 2005 in Rosario’s final fixture of the Apertura. His first goal was made around eleven months later when the club was against Quilmes in the following season of Apertura in which they won by 4-2. Angel-Di-Maria-biography Angel Fabian Di Maria Hernandez Biography In July 2007, the winger was transferred to Benfica with €6 million fee. In October 2009, he signed a new deal with Benfica to add three more years playing in that Portuguese club. Several moments after that, he became “Argentina’s next superstar”. The next year, in February 27, Di Maria had successfully created his first hat trick by defeating Leixoes SC with 4-0 score. The summer of 2010 reported that Di Maria would be transferred from Benfica to Real Madrid with a five-year contract for €25 million, plus €11 million in incentives. Somehow, last summer Di Maria had signed a five-year deal with Manchester United for a transfer fee of £59.7 million, the fifth most expensive transfer of all time and the highest fee ever paid by a British club. Lately, a rumor said that the one of the biggest football clubs in Premiere League, Manchester United, is ready to sell Di Maria to PSG in January. Indeed, Di Maria is interested to play for PSG. The report said that United are willing to flog the £60million-rated wideman, in order to spend the cash on Borussia Dortmund’s Reus. tags: Angel Di Maria, Biography, Football, Players

Premier League and Football League: Ups and downs

Chelsea secured their fourth Premier League title - becoming English champions for the fifth time overall - by beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on 3 May. They will be joined in the Champions League by Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United. The top three teams qualify for the Champions League group stage, with the fourth-placed team entering the preceding play-off round. City are guaranteed as runners-up, while Arsenal will finish third unless they lose their final game against West Brom and Manchester United win at Hull while achieving a seven-goal swing in goal difference. English clubs have three places in the Europa League - for the FA Cup winners, Capital One Cup winners and fifth-placed Premier League side. Gary Cahill Chelsea ensured their fourth Premier League title by beating Crystal Palace on 3 May Chelsea won the League Cup on 1 March, and so their Europa League slot will be transferred to the team in sixth. Should Arsenal win the FA Cup, their Europa League place will be allocated to the next highest club in the Premier League that has not yet qualified for the tournament, rather than to the beaten finalists. The fight for fifth, sixth and seventh place will go to the final day of the season, and it is between Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton. England has been granted an extra Europa League place as one of the top three countries in Uefa's Respect Fair Play league. That place is set to go to West Ham, Everton or Burnley. The bottom three Premier League teams will be relegated to the Championship. Burnley's demotion was confirmed on 9 May despite a 1-0 win at Hull. QPR joined them the next day when they were thrashed by Manchester City. The final relegation place will be filled by either Hull or Newcastle. The Tigers will go down unless they beat Manchester United on the final day and Newcastle fail to beat West Ham, which would send the Magpies down instead. CHAMPIONSHIP Bournemouth were promoted as champions after winning 3-0 at Charlton on the final day of the season while Watford, who had confirmed their Premier League place on 25 April, were denied the title when they conceded a last-minute equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday on the last day. Norwich and Middlesbrough will contest the play-off final on Monday, 25 April. At the bottom, Blackpool were the first Football League team to go down this season, after fellow strugglers Rotherham beat Brighton 1-0 on 6 April. The Millers' 2-1 win over Reading on 28 April meant Wigan and Millwall filled the remaining relegation places.

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool should not be held to ransom over forward

Raheem Sterling's fragile relationship with Liverpool may be broken beyond repair when he tells manager Brendan Rodgers he wants to leave Anfield when they meet later this week. Liverpool have always been steadfast in their determination to keep Sterling despite the 20-year-old's obvious and public reluctance to sign a new deal worth £100,000-a-week. Sterling, it seems, is equally determined to leave in a development which will come as another bitter blow to Liverpool as they recover from the impending departure of captain Steven Gerrard to LA Galaxy and the collapse of a season that saw them lose to Aston Villa in an FA Cup semi-final and fail to reach the Champions League. So is Sterling right to want to leave? And why should Liverpool and Rodgers be held to ransom by a youngster, albeit a talented one, who still has so much to prove? Why would Sterling want to leave? Sterling and his camp have insisted all along that the contract impasse that has provided a sideshow to the concluding weeks of Liverpool's season has not, and never has been, about money. It is a version of events that has been treated with open suspicion by Liverpool's supporters but if this is the case - and we must take Sterling's words at face value - why would he want to leave? Real Madrid-bound? "Sterling is a name that would cause mild curiosity at the Bernabeu rather than any sense of excitement." Sterling states his wish is to play his football at the highest level, presumably Champions League. Liverpool would be within their rights to point out to Sterling that he had Champions League football at Anfield this season and hardly excelled as they went out at the group stage - and more consistent form on his part may have even resulted in a place in the Premier League's top four and qualification next season. Europa League football is not the stuff of glamour but Sterling has plenty of time to put that right at Liverpool, so has his head been turned by the departures of world-class talent such as Luis Suarez and Gerrard? In an exclusive interview with BBC Sport recently, he said: "You really want to be working with world-class players day in, day out. It's obviously left a little dent with these two world-class superstars leaving but I think we have good players coming through." Not enough, it seems, to want to give Liverpool another season. What does this mean for Liverpool? Initially it will be a blow, coming hard on the heels of those end of season disappointments - but Rodgers and owners Fenway Sports Group have a key factor in their favour. Sterling is liked but not loved at Liverpool and even that goodwill has been eroded in recent times. He does not have the status or stature of an Anfield superstar and if he departed, it is unlikely to be a cause for widespread mourning among fans.

What Is England's Best Under-21 XI? Despite what their managers say, Shaw, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kane should be a part of England's Under-21s Euros side this summer. WhoScored.com find no place for Wilshere..

It's fair to say there are great expectations for England's Under-21s this summer as Gareth Southgate's side travel to the Czech Republic to take part in the Euros. Optimism as to the Three Lions' chances next month rose to worrying heights as England overcame tournament favourites Germany in their last friendly outing, with France and Spain surprisingly falling at the qualification hurdle. Despite the team's progress in their absence, calls remain for Southgate to recall a number of players now seen as regulars in the senior set-up, dividing opinions as to whether the likes of Sterling, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wilshere - whose birthday falls on the cut-off date for eligibility - should drop back down in an attempt to secure some long-awaited glory. WhoScored.com reveal the top rated players able to play for England's Under-21s this summer from the Premier League, with a number of high-profile omissions. Due to the difficulties with comparing players from England's second tier to those in the top-flight, Championship players have not been selected. Jack Butland - WhoScored.com rating 6.97 While the rest of the XI here have made at least 10 appearances this season, Jack Butland is the only eligible goalkeeper to have featured in the Premier League in any capacity. His recent displays in the absence of Asmir Begovic for Stoke certainly show that the England Under-21 captain is a safe pair of hands between the posts, with a league-leading save success rate of 90.9% over his three appearances. Calum Chambers - WhoScored.com rating 7.00 He may have fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal but Calum Chambers' displays at the start of the season were cause for encouragement for Gunners fans. He's picked up a goal and an assist for his club and impressive averages of 2.1 tackles and two interceptions per game were enough to earn a senior England call-up last year, along with a place in this team ahead of the man he effectively replaced at the Emirates, Carl Jenkinson. Phil Jones - WhoScored.com rating 7.46 His defending may be a little unorthodox, but you can rely on Phil Jones to walk through walls (and headbutt floors) for the good of the team. The defender's impressive rating of 7.46 from WhoScored comes courtesy of a mightily impressive 3.2 interceptions per game, and the United man has been somewhat overlooked when it comes to those that could feature for the Under-21s this summer. John Stones - WhoScored.com rating 7.17 Now very much a part of Everton's first choice centre-back pairing, John Stones is expected to line-up for Southgate's side next month despite having been called up to the senior squad by Hodgson this season. In a difficult campaign for the Toffees their defensive record improved upon Stones' introduction to the backline, conceding 1.14 goals per game in his 22 appearances compared to 1.6 in his absence in the league. Luke Shaw - WhoScored.com rating 6.79 Despite an underwhelming debut season at Old Trafford, Luke Shaw takes his place at left-back, albeit with the lowest rating (6.79) of the XI. It's been a tough transition for a player who is still only a teenager, with injuries and a lack of fitness early on in the campaign hampering his progress. Louis van Gaal has stated that he doesn't want the left-back to travel to the Czech Republic but in terms of his future aspirations at senior level it would certainly be beneficial. Wilfried Zaha - WhoScored.com rating 6.93 After a dismal spell with Manchester United Wilfried Zaha is back on familiar ground and very much enjoying his football again under Alan Pardew at Palace. The 22-year old netted his fourth goal of the campaign as the Eagles ruined Steven Gerrard day at the weekend and he has shown flashes of his incredibly confident best form since returning to Selhurst Park, averaging 2.7 dribbles per game.

Van Gaal: Tough to keep De Gea Louis van Gaal has admitted Manchester United will find it difficult to stop goalkeeper David de Gea joining Real Madrid this summer.

United have offered the Spanish international a bumper new deal but he is yet to sign it and speculation is mounting over a potential return to La Liga. Van Gaal believes the chance of moving back to one of the world's top clubs and to his native country could be too hard for the 24-year-old to turn down. “He is Spanish, he is Spanish international and now a Spanish club is coming,” Van Gaal told Sky Sports after United's 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford. “His girlfriend is Spanish, his father and mother come every week or every two weeks here. So it is difficult." De Gea was injured and replaced by Victor Valdes in the 74th minute against Arsenal, with United fans, who had held up banners asking him to stay throughout the match, applauding him as he left the pitch. But despite admitting that it may be difficult to keep the goalkeeper at Old Trafford, Van Gaal will not let him leave easily. Van Gaal said: "With every individual transfer there is a process and there will be a process with David De Gea. "David De Gea shall not leave us so easily because we are a great club and he wants to participate.”

Kane 'not a United target' Harry Kane is not a summer transfer target for Manchester United, according to Sky Sports News HQ reporter James Cooper.

Reports surfaced on Thursday night that the Tottenham striker, who has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, could be the subject of a £45m bid. Manchester United are expected to make more moves in the transfer market after the signing of Memphis Depay, but Kane does not appear to be on their list of targets. "There are a lot of intriguing tales because I think the main fact remains Manchester United will spend big this summer and they have got targets," Cooper said. "I don’t think Harry Kane is among them and certainly speaking to Manchester United folk this morning he is not on their radar. "I think they no doubt admire what he has done for Tottenham Hotspur this season but if you look further into this and look into the striking options they do have available, Wayne Rooney is safe, he is captain of Manchester United. "[There are] question marks perhaps over Robin van Persie but he is a proven Premier League goalscorer. There is a question mark perhaps over Radamel Falcao as well and he’s scored goals everywhere except for Manchester United and might be given a second chance. "Then you go down to James Wilson, who may well be allowed out on loan next season, then of course you have Chicharito [Javier Hernandez] who may come back from loan. "I think Manchester United will be in the market for a striker but I do think they have priorities elsewhere, defensively and in midfield. "I’d expect another four maybe five signings hot on the heels of Memphis Depay and there could be some other surprises too, but I don’t think at the moment Harry Kane is someone Manchester United are realistically looking at, whether it is that price or not that price.

What Happened To The Soul-Lifters? Premier League teams are stuffed with 6/10 players - consistently being just about good enough and not making mistakes. Scrutiny is making maverick impossible...

As another season draws to a slow and tedious close - like the last hour of a movie whose plot you had worked out after 30 minutes - I'm sure many of us have stared at Premier League games recently with blank eyes and emotions dulled by over-exposure to unexciting football. The end can't come soon enough, but it's still nearly three weeks until the FA Cup final. Oh God. Please let it be over. For those of us with an interest in the play-offs there is still something to distract, but if the Premier League is your primary form of entertainment, you'll already be looking forward to some blessed relief from the boredom. In the top flight it has been a largely sterile season which has been populated with teams full of drones, of athletes and of grafters. Where are the poets and the creative geniuses? They're in tragically short supply in 2015 in the Premier League. The lens of scrutiny is so intense, conservatism has become inevitable. The overwhelming reliance on statistical analysis in order to understand what is going on, though interesting from time to time, is slowly tying a carrier bag over the head of modern football talent. It is like trying to understand why a song moves you by analysing how the words of the song are spelt, rather than listening to the music. Everything feels stale and lacking the fresh air of invention and unpredictability. Nothing is really good, nothing is really bad. Teams are stuffed with 6/10 players. Too many players and managers are dull pragmatists or corporate types whose aim is to offer few hostages to fortune and even less entertainment. And who can blame them? One bad game, one bad tackle, one failure, one word out of place, one off-colour expression, one thoughtless remark and a howling gale of righteous indignation and mockery will pour down on you. Death by a million witty memes awaits. In the modern world of football there is a lot of loud opinion passing itself off as passionate insight, while the quieter pragmatist has been shouted down and has no place. Everything is reduxed into brilliant or awful, nuances are non-existent. You are hot or you are not. When you end up looking to John Carver and Tim Sherwood for light relief, or just for a voice that doesn't sound as though it is delivering a speech on interest rates to a team of middle managers at an insurance corporation, you know things have reached some sort of nadir. The scrutiny of TV, radio, newspapers and social media has meant everyone is scared of being the subject of some sort of phoney outrage or scandal. Players and managers even cover their mouths now so as not to have their comments to a colleague lip-read, because you know what would happen. Player X called manager Y an effin' whatever and then it's all over the media for 24 hours as everyone fills their pages with comment and soon enough an apology has to be issued by the player and by the manager and by the man accused of being an effin' whatever and then it all dies down like it never happened and we await the next storm of hysteria. If we're not careful, this degree of over-reaction to absolutely everything in pursuit of filling the infinite space of media, will suffocate football until it becomes a zombie corpse. Creativity can't flourish in an environment where trying something different and failing is greeted with groaning fans, howls of indignation and media evisceration. Creativity cannot co-exist with inhibition. When we become too judgemental, everything becomes fearful and nothing new is tried. Eden Hazard has been a stand-out talent this year but, to be frank, for most of its post-war history, at least, almost every top-flight team had an Eden Hazard - someone who could run with the ball, dribble, see a pass and score a goal. It was what we loved about football. We could all draw up a huge list of players like that from quite recently, to a long time ago. Where are they now? They've been largely crushed by the conformity of modern life. They have had the flair robbed from them and replaced with the instinct to run fast a lot. Hazard stands out because it hasn't happened to him.

Rooney, Van Persie or Falcao: Who is Manchester United’s best striker?

As Manchester United look to end their recent goal drought at Crystal Palace on Saturday Night Football, we assess the relative merits of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao. Who is the man to lead the line for United? “I hope the week goes by quickly and we can reverse this bad streak of results,” said Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata following the club’s 1-0 defeat to West Brom at Old Trafford last weekend. After appearing to have turned a corner, this was their third loss in a row. “It's the tendency of the last few weeks. We have more ball possession than our opponent and create chances but we aren't able to take them. We must focus on being effective because we haven't scored in the last few games and we can't afford it any longer.” Premier League Relegation 15/16 Watford 8/13 Bournemouth evens West Brom 5/1 Football Betting Bet £5 Get £20 Free Mata isn’t one to court controversy but given that United have now gone almost five hours without scoring, it’s not unreasonable to conclude that much of the responsibility for the current difficulties can be laid at the door of the team’s strikers.

Relegation would help Newcastle - loanee Gael Bigirimana

Falling out of the Premier League this season could boost Newcastle's long-term prospects, loanee Gael Bigirimana has claimed. The 21-year-old has had a frustrating spell since moving to Rangers on a loan deal from Newcastle in January, not featuring for the Scottish Championship side after being diagnosed with a mystery illness. However, with the Magpies in danger of relegation after a shocking run of eight successive defeats, the Burundi-born England youth cap has revealed his controversial thoughts on what he believes might actually end up helping his parent club. Premier League Relegation 15/16 Watford 8/13 Bournemouth evens West Brom 5/1 Football Betting Bet £5 Get £20 Free Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, he said: "This might put me in trouble but you look at what happened to Southampton five or six years ago. (The Saints went into administration and were relegated to League One in 2009). "Sometimes as a club you need everything to be reviewed – its foundation and the structure. Speaking on MNF, Gary Neville reflects on a tough weekend for Newcastle. Speaking on MNF, Gary Neville reflects on a tough weekend for Newcastle. "I don’t want them to go down and get relegated. Nobody wants that to happen but it’s all about the future." Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Leicester left them two points above the relegation zone with an inferior goal difference to four of the five teams below. Newcastle’s final games see them travel to relegation rivals QPR, either side of home games against West Brom and West Ham.

Andrea Pirlo v Carlo Ancelotti: Juve star faces his old AC Milan mentor

There is always praise for his technique but his character and personality are undervalued. He is one of the few players that you need to say little or nothing to, he understands everything by himself.” - Carlo Ancelotti on Andrea Pirlo Ancelotti’s assessment of Pirlo’s intelligence is not without substance. In their first pre-season together at AC Milan, Ancelotti was widely credited with transforming the midfielder’s career by switching him to a deep-lying role that Pirlo had hitherto only dabbled in during a brief loan spell at Brescia under Carlo Mazzone. But in typically self-effacing style, Ancelotti admitted in his autobiography that it was Pirlo’s own initiative that sparked the change of position. “Pirlo really helped me out. He approached me one day and suggested that he could play in a deep position, just in front of the back four. I was extremely sceptical. He was an attacking midfielder, his tendency was to run with the ball. And yet, it worked. He became one of the best in the world in that role. I stuck Clarence Seedorf out wide, with Rui Costa and Rivaldo behind the lone striker and - presto! - there was my 4-3-2-1 or Christmas Tree.”

Hull 1-3 Arsenal: Alexis Sanchez nets twice to move Arsenal level on points with Man City

Arsenal cruised past Hull City as Alexis Sanchez's double earned a 3-1 victory at the KC Stadium and drew the Gunners level on points with Manchester City in the battle for second. Two Sanchez strikes and an Aaron Ramsey goal put the visitors firmly in control in the first half, before Stephen Quinn gave Hull hope on 56 minutes, but the Gunners held on. Arsenal are now unbeaten in 10 games and, still with a game in hand, they have equalled City’s 70 points. albeit with an inferior goal difference. Hull remain level on points and goal difference with Leicester in the battle for Premier League survival, but have dropped beneath them having scored fewer goals. Sanchez, who has now scored in all three meetings with Hull this season, pick-pocketed Tom Huddlestone in midfield after 28 minutes to instigate the opener. Jake Livermore brought him down to prevent an ominous dribble towards goal, but Sanchez’s 25-yard free-kick sailed past a helpless Steve Harper, via a fortuitous deflection off Michael Dawson. Alexis Sanchez: Scored twice as Arsenal beat Hull Five minutes later, Santi Cazorla pinged a missile of a pass with his left foot from the half-way line, picking out the onrushing Ramsey perfectly. The Welshman, who had seemed certain to be substituted earlier after an ankle injury, controlled it and beat Harper with another deflection benefitting the visitors. While Hull had their moments in the first half – Sone Aluko sent a feeble header off target from a few yards out after Robbie Brady’s left-wing cross – Arsenal put the game beyond them before the interval. Sanchez had been denied by Harper after Cazorla sent him scurrying through on goal but, presented with an identical chance seconds later, he wouldn’t miss again. Ramsey played in Sanchez, who rounded the goalkeeper for his side’s third.

David Beckham at 40: Portraits of ex-Man Utd & England player

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season. Lawro's opponent for this weekend's Premier League fixtures is former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman. Wyman, who counts England manager Roy Hodgson as a friend after a chance meeting in a restaurant a couple of years ago, is a Crystal Palace fan and first watched the Eagles with his father when they were in Division Three South. "My dad took me when I was 10 years old to the very first season after the Second World War," he said. "I've been a supporter ever since. When they lose, my weekend is ruined! It's ridiculous." You can see all of Wyman's predictions on Football Focus at 12:10 BST on Saturday on BBC One and the BBC Sport website (in the UK).
