Lazio’s sporting director has confirmed the club have cooled their interest in Manchester United striker Robin van Persie because he is outside of their ‘parameters.’
The Dutch forward endured a frustrating season through injuries and poor form, with rumours of his future fuelled after being spotted in Rome over the weekend.
The 31-year-old reportedly met Lazio officials last week, but Igli Tare moved to denounce those stories – instead reiterating their desire to keep hold of current striker and World Cup record goalscorer Miroslav Klose.
“I can only say that I respect Van Persie as a striker, but unfortunately he is outside of our parameters. There was never any meeting,” Tare told Lazio Style Radio.
“Klose has decided to continue his adventure with Lazio. It’s a sign of his great attachment to the club and to the fans.”
Klose, previously linked with a move to Tottenham, pledged his future to Lazio for at least another season following their qualification for next year’s Champions League.
